Wheelchair patients at Dublin Dental School & Hospital are benefiting from the diaco® dental chair, which is revolutionising the way in which dental treatment is provided.
The chair is a fully mobile dental platform designed specifically for wheelchair patients. The patient stays in their own wheelchair at all times, which eliminates manual handling and hoisting. At the same time it enables the optimal angle for dental care treatment for both patient and clinical team.
Professor June Nunn, from the Department of Public and Child Dental Health at Dublin Dental School & Hospital, said: "The Diaco unit allows us to increase the range of treatment we can offer to patients who are reliant on wheelchairs, as well as improving the working environment for the dental team."
Dublin Dental School & Hospital focuses on undergraduate and postgraduate education, the provision of clinical dental services, and high quality research. The Dental Hospital complex houses one of the most modern dental hospital clinical facilities in the world. It is recognised internationally as a major centre for clinical treatment, education and research in the field of oral health and disease.
David Vandyke, director of Diaco Limited, said: "We are delighted to have Dublin Dental School and Hospital as a diaco clinic. The dental chair will be of enormous benefit to wheelchair patients at the hospital, and the importance of this world-class facility investing in a diaco® dental chair cannot be overstated."
The Irish Health Services Accreditation Board recently recognised Dublin Dental School and Hospital as a centre of excellence for using a multi-disciplinary team approach to the delivery of care, and fostering a positive culture where continuous quality improvement is promoted and encouraged.
Since launching in 2004, the diaco® dental chair is used across the NHS in the UK, and in internationally recognised dental hospitals throughout Europe, Asia and Australia.
