FAQs: Diaco Dental Chair

The diaco® dental chair simply and safely reclines your wheelchair patient into the optimal treatment position for all types of oral care. Your patient remains in the safety and comfort of their own wheelchair at all times throughout the treatment phase eliminating any requirement for manual transfer, hoisting or lifting. The diaco® dental chair allows you to position the wheelchair patients head in the same position as you would achieve with an able bodied patient in a standard dental chair.

2. Can the diaco® dental chair take Electric and Manual wheelchairs?

Yes. It has been tested, and designed, to accept mass manufactured electric and manual wheelchairs. In addition it can accept bariatric patient's upto 500kgs/1100lbs.

3. Does the patient need to leave their wheelchair or be handled in any way?

No. The diaco® dental chair eliminates the entire need for manual handling, hoisting or lifting of the patient.

4. Is there a patient size or weight restriction?

No. The diaco® dental chair has a safe working load of 500kgs/1100lbs and therefore can take any weight of patient. In addition, the diaco® dental chair, in conjunction with a wheelchair, enables the treatment of able bodied obese patients

5. Is the diaco® dental chair fully mobile?

Yes. The diaco® dental chair is fully mobile and can easily be moved around the surgery, between surgeries or to different departments. The unit is moved by using a joystick to direct the powered wheels.

6. Will the diaco® dental chair enable me to get the patient into the optimum treatment position?

Yes. The diaco® dental chair allows the patients head to be in the same position as you would expect from an able bodied patient in a traditional dental chair. You have clear access to the patient from the back as well as the left and right hand side.

7. Do I have to alter my surgery in any way?

No. The mobility of the diaco® dental chair means that it fits around your surgery, not the other way around.

8. Can it share a surgery with a traditional dental chair?

Yes. This is specifically what the diaco® dental chair has been designed to do. Positioning the diaco® dental chair next to the current dental chair allows the clinical team access to the current services. There may be some requirement for the lengthening of suction hoses, we can advise you of this during our surgery visit.

9. How much space does the diaco® dental chair require?

The diaco® dental chair occupies 1250mm x 905mm. This is about 30% less floor space than a traditional dental chair and about 20% more space that a wheelchair.

10. Does it have an emergency release?

Yes. The diaco® dental chair has a safety handle allowing the patient to be quickly, but safely, returned to the upright position within 4 seconds. This is of particular importance for emergency situations or in the event of complete power failure at the surgery.

11. Is the diaco® dental chair is totally safe?

Yes. The diaco® dental chair is manufactured by an ISO 9001 company to exacting engineering standards and has been independently safety tested to 650kgs. The diaco dental chair is fully CE certified by the British Standards Institute for the EMC, LVD, Machinery and Safety of Machinery Directives.

12. Are the back rest and head rests fully adjustable?

Yes. The backrest and headrest can be fully adjusted to suit any position required. For patients who have their own integrated headrest on their wheelchair the Diaco headrest can either be fully removed or preferably used as a head support used in conjunction with their own head rest.

13. Do I need to help the wheelchair patient in any way?

No. If the patient is fully self sufficient then there is no requirement for additional help.

14. Is there a guarantee?

Yes. The diaco® dental chair has a 10 year structural guarantee with a 2 year servicing and maintenance warranty.

15. Do you have an Establishment registration and Device listing with the FDA?

16. Is the diaco® dental chair on a US Government GSA FSS Schedule?

17. Who currently uses the diaco® dental chair?

18. What about Large, Obese, Bariatric able-bodied dental patients who are not in a wheelchair?

For this patient group we recommend the bariatric dental chair www.dentalchair.co.uk The Bariatric Dental Chair is a fully functional dental chair suitable for all patient groups up to 1000lbs (454kgs 71st) allowing large, overweight, obese and bariatric patients to be treated on the same dental chair as all other patients.
